Semantic Classification - Classification Technology for Catalogs

First Retail’s technology enables our clients’ internal systems to interoperate with the Semantic Web at the interfaces of public and private information stores. Technologies such as RDF and OWL have been designed as transport and storage formats for data. Like XML, they do not do anything in themselves, however, the Semantic Classification Technology can ingest and export data in Semantic Web formats.

The Semantic Classification Technology uses advanced and scalable text classification techniques that are designed to work best on large volumes and rates of unstructured data (text). This product has at its heart a cloud-based, scalable latent semantic indexing (LSI) technology that incrementally ingests very large corpora of textual, semi-structured product information data. Where available structured data is also used to augment the information - for example, after initially classifying unstructured text, rules about price ranges can be applied in order to improve precision.
